The race is now on for many countries to attain zero emissions. In June 2019, the UK and France became the world’s first major economies to pass laws setting a date to achieve carbon neutrality. Both marked 2050 as their legal cut-off date to achieve this. With many other countries exploring similar targets and laws, the question now is: how do we get there? This is one of the key themes being explored by the oil and gas industry, utilities, finance and policymakers.
Agriculture and forestry play an increasing role in supplying renewable energy. The production of renewable energy from agriculture and forestry in recent years has been of particular significance. However, the production of renewable energy has increased more rapidly in the agricultural sector than in the forestry sector. The production of renewable energy from agriculture increased by almost seven-fold between 2004 and 2010.
There is no way around it: food production must become sustainable and we must strive to do our share with the help of ground-breaking technology. According to a recent UN Report in 2017, one in nine people in the world went to bed hungry, while one in three suffered from malnutrition. Meanwhile, the earth’s resources are limited and under increasing pressure. It is abundantly clear that the world needs efficient and sustainable food production systems. This calls for new food production technology, more efficient resource use, and responsible and sustainable value chains.
At Agrienviron, we aim to promote more sustainable urban and rural development, which focuses on improving the quality of life in a locality, including ecological, cultural, political, institutional, social and economic components without leaving any burden - e.g., the result of a reduced natural capital and an excessive local debt - on future generations. In other words, prosperity and environmental sustainability of cities and towns are inextricably linked; therefore, human settlements can only maintain their prosperity when environmental and social objectives are fully integrated with economic goals.
Thematically, sustainable urban and rural development includes:
Planning for sustainable urban and rural futures;
Impacts of human activities on natural systems;
Ecological and urban and regional planning;
Sustainable urban and rural infrastructure;
Sustainable transportation systems;
Sustainable communities;
Climate change adaptation and mitigation;
Agrienviron aims to bring innovations that will benefit our environment.We live in a modern world where the industrial and environmental collide. Solving climate change calls for pragmatic solutions that also address the most pressing economic and social issues of our time. With newer, more technically advanced breakthroughs in greener power generation coming into the fray, the race is on to identify the most suitable solutions and implement them in geographies and communities that need them the most.
Be that as it may, the responsibility to tackle these challenges and move the world forward can’t rest solely on governments. Private enterprises, research institutions, nonprofit organisations and philanthropists must step up, too, and work together to drive change from the bottom up.
We conduct research with innovative agricultural partners to identify and scale strategies to improve in areas such as water management and ensure a vibrant agricultural system and global food security. Agriculture uses approximately 70% of the world’s freshwater supply, and water managers are under mounting pressure to produce more food and fibre for a growing population while also reducing water waste and pollution and responding to a changing climate. In light of these challenges, more farmers are adopting innovative water management strategies, such as innovative irrigation systems and scheduling and methods to improve soil health.
Agri-environmental measures are a key element for the integration of environmental concerns into the common agricultural policy (CAP). They are designed to encourage farmers to protect and enhance the environment on their farmland by paying them for the provision of environmental services.The environment is at the heart of everything we do, working with clients and our own research. We aim to be as sustainable as possible and develop different solutions to any project whilst working with nature.
We are committed to a sustainable future and to improving the social, economic and environmental well being of the communities we work with. Our mission is to create cleaner safer neighbourhoods in which we live, by working together with our neighbours to improve our local environmental quality.
Our belief is that:
Concern: The concern of our business is the success of your business.
We support clients such as Farmers and Growers, Governments, NGOs, Public/ Private Enterprises (e.g. Banks, Insurance Companies), industry (e.g. Leisure & Tourism, Mining and Building/Construction).
